ESTRO invites you to participate in a two-day conference in brussels (20-21 march 2011) focusing on selected aspects of ra- diation adverse effects in normal tissues. The conference aims to bring together physical, biological and clinical approaches to quantifying radiation injury, understanding mechanisms and developing strategies for reducing this damage. The structure of the conference will involve sessions opening with plenary lectures addressing related topics followed by proffered papers. There will be ample time for informal discussion with the aim of facilitating collaborations that might lead to new research initiatives. Topics that are not included in the formal programme can be discussed during poster presentations.
Themes that will be formally covered include:
• Quantitative evaluation of normal tissue toxicity
• modelling and prediction of normal tissue damage
• New radiation technologies and their influence on normal tissue toxicity
• microvascular damage and potential dangers of anti-angiogenic therapy combined with radiation
• cardiac damage and the influence of chemotherapy or biological modifiers
• growth factors and stem cell replacement as modulators of radiation damage
