Why Clinicians should attend the 2012 World Congress of Brachytherapy?
This event in the world brachytherapy community is not to be missed. Since the last meeting in Boston in 2008, significant progress has taken place. For instance, within the field of image guided adaptive brachytherapy, new indications for brachytherapy have surfaced. And new clinical trials have improved our understanding of the role and importance of brachytherapy when combined with other treatment modalities within a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of cancer. In addition, the scientific programme will also address the current barriers for dissemination of modern brachytherapy techniques to all parts of the world in terms of education, equipment and health economics.
The World Brachytherapy Meeting will look into the future and give us an insight into what to expect in the coming years where pipeline studies of functional imaging, robotic implantation techniques and improved radiobiological knowledge hold promise for new therapeutic improvements for our patients.
An epic moment of the 2012 World Brachytherapy Meeting will undoubtedly be witnessing Professor Carlos Perez from the United States receiving the Marie Curie Award and listening to him deliver his lecture highlighting the accomplishments not only of the last four years but looking back on the first one hundred years of Brachytherapy.
